A trip to London, or more specifically the suburbs would often produce a rewarding few hours of old cars. As recently as 2015, you could discover something of interest if you looked hard enough. Spotting 25-year-old German or Japanese cars (particularly Honda or Toyota) was easy enough to find, but sometimes it’s the element of surprise that motivated me.

The scrappage scheme of the late 2000s did much to thin out the numbers but it’s the environmental levies on car drivers that have made the capital a less interesting place for old tatty ars. This Cortina has marked a particular part of North London for years and it somehow soldiers on. I’m rarely motivated to get into town these days as the combination of traffic and exhortation costs makes it unappealing but this example still shows there are still a few diamonds in the rough.
