1992 Alpine A610 Turbo

A genuine contender for an alternative to a Porsche 911 is fairly plentiful these days, but the cold truth is that Porsche is perched right on top of the rear-engine sports car mountain.

Every so often budding contenders would try and knock it off and this is what Alpine, with their Renault-powered A610 Turbo, attempted to do in 1991. It had a lot going for it, particularly about driving dynamics, chassis design and styling. However, the UK public was not entirely convinced, perhaps it was the meagre number of RHD cars and the unknown quantity of Alpine brand, despite the Renault backup and dealer network.

Just 67 RHD A610s were produced, this one was bought new in 1992 and shipped over to Singapore as part of a private collection. Still with its delivery miles, it was imported back into the UK in 2006 and its subsequent owner couldn’t resist the temptation to enjoy the car and added 3,421 miles. Well-known in Alpine circles and events, I was lucky enough to shoot this car for sale at Hightone Restorations which is handling it on behalf of its owner. This is one seriously appealing and unique opportunity to obtain what has to be considered the best A610 in the UK, and possibly the world.
