1972 Ford Cortina 2000 GXL

The source of my car interest has always been the unexceptional as they’re also objects that retain personal memories and experiences to people. One car that symbolises that universal appeal is the Ford Cortina.

They were everywhere if you grew up in the 70’s and ‘80s – it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that every street corner had one parked up along it.

I’ve been hoping to capture this Cortina for a while now but decided to wait until the right moment and what turned out to be the perfect vehicle to accompany it.

The car is a regular at various car shows in the area and as authenticity goes, it’s close to perfect in my eyes; the patina, the rear window louvres, CB aerial and those slot mags.

It triggers off memories of my backbreaking paper round days, when the areas I delivered to were awash with cars hanging on to their lives. The only difference is that in this case, this car is actually very solid but a perfect snapshot of the era.
