NEC Classic Motor Show

The National Exhibition Centre will always have a place in the hearts of car fans of a certain age. Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, millions of people would have visited the collosal venue for the opportunity to see the latest cars. Whether you choose to sit inside a new model or simply relish the opportunity to see the latest design in the metal, it will resonate with those who may also remember the mix of the smell of fast food, cigarette smoke and the smell of newly printed brochure.

More recently the British Motorshow has moved over to London in a somewhat diluted form, the NEC is still used for motoring events, and while the smells and lighting have improved for the better, the vast halls full of cars and the constant hum of chatter is still evident. Known as the UK biggest indoor classic car event, the 6 halls are filled with everything for the deserning classic car fan. In reality to see everything properly, a visitor will require two days to see everything, such is the size of the event.

The event celebrates 35 years this year with over 70,000 people expected over the three days. Other than hundreds of car clubs, trade stands, auction houses and driving experiences, the event attracts plenty of TV coverage and it’s not unusual to come across the classic car TV personalities wondering around.
