Organised by the Surrey Street Rodders, Wheels day is a regular event held on Good Friday every year. Created to host Drag Racing, Hot Rods and Customs way back in 1976, the event is now open to all types of classic car, although there is still a strong American and Custom car flavour to the show.
Proceeds go to charity and the event is combined with an impressive array of trade stalls as well as other visitor attractions. Held at Rushmoor Arena, the venue is occasionally affected by the damp weather, where the lack of hard standing occasionally causes problems for the cars but this year was a perfect spring day.
Imposing Americana dominates the show, with an impressive selection of cars seen.
Customisation in this style was hugely popular, with paintwork being carried out by imaginative and talented specialists.
The best of british were evident too, both standard and modifed examples.
Quirky events often attact leftfield cars too, with cars as diverse as the Simca 1100 and Subaru 360 being surprise but welcome attractions.
Gasser stances were a popular look, which translated well into the US-influenced style cars of the ’50s and ’60s.
All ride heights welcome.
