Group B rally cars. Rally motorsports reached its nadir in the ‘80s, with huge development costs and research going especially into bespoke rally cars, in the same vein as Formula one. The era started in 1982, as a modified group touring category to allow manufacturers to showcase their ability in low weight high-performance cars. There was no set limit in power output, as a result, some cars produced close to 500 bhp. Due to the low homologation requirements (200 cars), it attracted huge interest in manufacturers including Ferrari and Porsche, as well as Moskvitch and Premier. However, following a series of fatal accidents to both drivers and spectators, the series was withdrawn; simply put the cars were far too fast for the unprotected terrain and due to the nature of rally sport virtually impossible to sanitise. As a result, many unused cars survived and were passed over to private customers, some of which enter them in public competition events.
