The Festival of the Unexceptional 2023

The glorious Festival of the Unexceptional was held again at the picturesque Grimsthorpe Castle, which has settled as the choice venue for what has to be one of the world’s most anticipated and best-known events for unexceptional cars.

This year’s show appears to have been the best attended in the nine years of the event, with a wide selection of vehicles ranging from 1968 to 1998. Acting as a social event, as much as a collection of cars, if you’re heavily invested in these types of vehicles, the cars you’d see on the walk to school, or maybe a model that your parents owned, then the emotional effect of being triggered with joy can be difficult to suppress.

Perhaps its collection of cars reflects a simpler time, what is heartening to see is that the majority of visitors and participants were far younger than many of the cars on display. How important an event like this will become very evident as society changes its priorities towards the combustion engine in the next decade. Thank you to Adam Sloman at Hagerty UK and everyone I met and caught up with. Another truly memorable day.
